About Me

Hello! I’m Kaitlyn and I am passionate about story telling through writing, photography, and social media content. I am a recent graduate of the Broadcast Media and Journalism program at BCIT, where I focused a lot of my work around community building in the stories that I told. During the program, I had the opportunity to gain experience through internships at Global News, TransLink, and Living Wage for Families BC. Through these internships, I learned and honed my skills in communications and content creation.

I grew up in Edmonton, Alberta where I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Alberta. I majored in Political Science with a minor in Linguistics which inspired my interest in writing and bringing to light the stories related to culture and minority communities. While completing my undergraduate degree, I took on an opportunity to volunteer in Taiwan in 2019. I spent three months teaching English to high school students through the AIESEC exchange volunteer program. Through this experience, I was able to enjoy my love for traveling while growing my communication and problem-solving skills.

Being the Vice President of Events in the UofA Political Science Undergraduate Association in 2021 and 2022 allowed me to further expand my organization skills. I also gained experience in event planning and administration. Additionally, I discovered my enjoyment for digital content creating through my position as the Vice President External for the UofA Hong Kong Student Association. In this role, I created digital content for the group’s Instagram and Facebook page throughout the 2021 school year. Outside of being a journalism student, I enjoy exploring the city, discovering delicious food at cafes and restaurants, and listening to music while cooking or baking. Growing up as a second-generation Hong Kong immigrant in Canada, I would like to use my writing and creative content creating skills to share the stories of cultures globally and within Canada.
